Types and colours

Colours
Of itself, bamboo is light-coloured. This shade is called 'natural'.

As all other plants, bamboo contains natural sugars.
By steaming the slats, the sugars are caramelized.
This turns the bamboo into a darker, and warmer colour: 'caramel'.
By a longer or shorter caramelization process various shades are produced.
No colourings or other additions are used.
It is a completely natural process.
The colours are often named for the wood the caramelized bamboo is resembling.
It is customary to use the English term here: oak, walnut, etc.
Bamboo boards in which slats of various colours have been used, are called 'forest'.

Massive bamboo is a board material, that is produced by gluing or pressing strips of bamboo on top of each other. The material has a number of distinctive characteristics. First of all, it's beautiful to look at.
And furthermore, it's:
available in various colours and structures
strong and tough
virtually maintenance free
sustainable and eco-friendly
See page Massive bamboo for more information.

Bamboo is the conscious choice for the modern engaged consumer, who wants to combine quality with good taste and an ecological buying pattern.
Not familiar with bamboo? We make test samples of scrap materials, and finish these samples in the same ways as our furniture.

Specifications & experiences
Pleasant work top
Since bamboo actually is a grass fibber, it has a much finer structure than most types of wood. Because of this, the surface is by nature already tough and smooth.
It is virtually scratch free. In short, an ideal work top for work desks and dining tables alike.

Virtually maintenance free
Bloooms finishes the bamboo with a natural oil.
This forms a molecular bonding with the wood, resulting in an extremely dense and durable layer. This layer is not on the wood, as with paint or varnish, but becomes a part of it.
Therefore it is extremely resistant to wear.
The treated bamboo is also excellently resistant against moisture. Stains on the table are hardly an issue.
They do not arise, or they will go away by themselves, even if the table is wiped off hours later.

The technology: colours and protects through molecular bonding
Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus adheres with the uppermost microns of the wood, through molecular bonding with the fibres (no film forming, no saturation method).
Through the molecular bonding a long-lasting and durable protection is achieved.
The method word assessing the resistance against wear is based on the NEN 2072 Prefabricated laminated parquet - Methods of test and inspection.
The resistance to water is determined according NEN-EN 13442.

I gladly invite customers to share their experiences with my product.
I am happy with the positive reactions, the less positive ones are something for me to work on.

Hello Paul,

The table is doing really fine.
That oil truly is miracle stuff.
Whatever we spill on it: coffee, wine, grease, etc.: we'll wipe off the table with water and glassex or something like that.
Firs a stain/ dark spot will appear, but after a while it will disappear.
The table still looks brand new.
It's a good idea to sell the oil separately.
In due time our table will probably need another layer. I'll come visit you when that's the case.

Best wishes from Stieneke

For our products I have proprietary maintenance materials on sale, such as soap.
An advantage of this soap is that it will leave the oil intact.
